How to Charter a Private Jet to the Academy Awards
This year the 89th Academy Awards Show, commonly known as the Oscars, takes place on Sunday the 26th February 2017 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. The awards will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and televised live by ABC from 7.30pm to over 225 countries across the world. Michael de Luca and Jennifer Todd are producing this year’s Oscar ceremony, which promises to feature top names from the world of film.
The Oscars is the most prestigious film awards ceremony on the planet. Every year, members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences honour the best films from the previous year with coveted awards in 24 categories. The judges, who all work in the film industry, are currently casting their ballots for 2017’s awards. This year’s Oscar nominations will be revealed on the 24th January and the winners kept secret until the official ceremony.
The most highly-anticipated Academy Award categories include Best Actor/Actress in a Leading Role, Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor/Actress in a Supporting Role. Tips for this year’s nominees include musical comedy La La Land, the Golden Globe Best Motion Picture winner Moonlight, and Kenneth Lonergan’s critically-acclaimed drama Manchester by the Sea.
The Oscars is Hollywood’s biggest red-carpet event and fashionistas will be eagerly watching to see what 2017’s stars are wearing. In past years, celebrities have sported specially-made frocks from designer brands like Versace and Dior. The hottest names in town will also be attending glitzy Oscar parties such as Elton John’s AIDS Fundraiser and the Vanity Fair post-awards party.
The Academy Awards date back to 1929 when the head of MGM Studios, Louis B. Mayer, decided to honour the best films of the year during a ceremony at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. In 1939 the Academy officially began using the nickname ‘Oscars’, which reportedly came from Executive Director Margaret Herrick, who claimed that the gold statue looked like her Uncle Oscar.
