Scientists on a research mission to Antarctica

A research institute asked Air Charter Service to help transport a group of over 100 French and Italian scientists to Tasmania in October 2020, before the final leg of their journey to Antarctica for a research mission.

OUR SOLUTION

Route: Paris > Rome > Hobart (plus a fuel stop in Colombo)

Aircraft: Boeing B767-300

We originally chartered a Boeing B777 from Paris to Hobart, with one stop in Rome to collect the Italian scientists and another in Dubai to refuel. However, two weeks before departure we discovered Hobart Airport doesn’t have the infrastructure to accommodate such a wide-bodied long-haul aircraft, so our expert team quickly liased with the operator to source a smaller Boeing 767-300 and moved the fuel stop from Dubai to Colombo to allow for the aircraft’s lesser range. Although Australia’s borders were closed to international flights, we managed to secure the necessary permits and authorisation to proceed with the flight.

Personalised Service: The client liked dealing with a dedicated account manager who was available 24/7 to deal with any queries and keep them updated.

Catering: This was a very long-haul flight, so we arranged four hot meals plus regular snacks to ensure the passengers were fully catered for throughout.
