Koltsovo Airport is located just over 16km from Yekaterinburg in Russia, and 17km from the Central Stadium in Yekaterinburg. It is larger than the nearby Uktus Airport, and it is the largest in Sverdlovsk Oblast. Koltsovo Airport began operating as a civil airport in 1943, initially as a domestic airport. It was granted international status in 1993. In addition to operating passenger flights, Koltsovo International also has cargo operations based at the airport. A brand new cargo terminal opened in 2012, measuring a total of 19,185 square meters. The airport has three terminals in total. Terminal A was opened in 2007 and is Koltsovo Airport’s domestic terminal, and comprises of two floors. It has a number of passenger facilities within, including check-in, baggage reclaim and duty free. In addition there are several retail and dining outlets. Terminal B is the largest of the three terminals, and is the international terminal for Koltsovo Airport. It too has an array of passenger services and shops. The third terminal is the airport’s VIP offering, containing dedicated check-in, passport control and baggage reclaim. The terminal has a unique exterior, with the building façade styled in a neoclassical way.
The airport is capable of handling aircraft up to a Boeing 757 or equivalent narrow-bodied airliners. The airport operates 24 hours a day. It is important to note that the airport has slot constraints and ground crew speak very little English.
